Suppresses the meiotic program during vegetative growth and promotes the meiotic program during mating. Recruitment of the NURS complex to target mRNAs promotes mRNA decay by engagement of the nuclear exosome, and formation of heterochromatin islands at meiotic genes silenced by the exosome.
