    Acts as an anti-FlhC(2)FlhD(4) factor by binding to FlhD, decreasing its ability to bind DNA, and thus negatively regulates expression of flagellar class II operons, decreasing motility in nutrient-poor medium. Required for resistance to host phagocyte oxidase. Suppresses killing of macrophages, while promoting resistance to hydrogen peroxide. Data regarding c-di-GMP is controversial; suppresses bacterial c-di-GMP levels but neither synthesizes nor degrades c-di-GMP.

    3. The results indicate that FliZ is a repressor of the nlpC-ydiV operon and activates the class 2 operons by repressing ydiV expression. Therefore, the fliZ and ydiV genes form a regulatory loop. PMID: 21804009
    4. This study showed that flagellar expression was much reduced in the cells grown in poor medium; it was concluded that YdiV is a novel anti-FlhD(4)C(2) factor responsible for nutritional control of the flagellar regulon. PMID: 21278297
