    Autoreceptor for octopamine (OA), which is a neurotransmitter, neurohormone, and neuromodulator in invertebrates. Essential for ovulation and fertilization. During ovulation it mediates the OA-induced relaxation of the oviduct visceral muscles, by increasing cAMP levels and activating effectors such as calmodulin-dependent kinase II (CaMKII) and cAMP-dependent protein kinase A (PKA) pathways. Positively regulates synaptic growth; an action that is antagonized by Octbeta1R.
