Cysteine desulfurization mobilizes sulfur from L-cysteine to yield L-alanine and supplies the inorganic sulfur for iron-sulfur (Fe-S) cluster formation. Glutaredoxins regulate SUFE1 activity by inducing its reduction and deglutathionylation.
