    Hydrolase that deubiquitinates monoubiquitinated target proteins such as histone H2A and H2B. Required for proper progression through S phase and subsequent mitotic entry. May regulate the DNA damage response (DDR) checkpoint through deubiquitination of H2A at DNA damage sites. Associates with the chromatin.

Moreover, USP3 was shown to influence cell proliferation by regulating cell cycle control and metastasis-related proteins. In vivo experiments showed that USP3 promoted GC tumor growth and metastasis. PMID: 30168892
    2. Depletion of USP3 lead to accelerated degradation of p53 in normal cells thereby enhanced cell proliferation and transformation.
