    Regulator of crossing-over during meiosis. Involved in initiation and/or maintenance of chromosome synapsis and formation of crossovers.

    1. Tex11 regulates genome-wide recombination rates in both sexes in a dosage-dependent manner. An intronless autosomal Tex11 transgene functionally substitutes for the X-linked Tex11 gene, providing genetic evidence for the X-to-autosomal retrotransposition evolution phenomenon. PMID: 26136358
    2. mouse spermatogonial stem cells expressed Tex11, Hpip, and Esr2 but not Esr1, and in cultured cells, TEX11 competed with Esr2 for binding to HPIP. PMID: 22383461
    3. TEX11 promotes initiation and/or maintenance of synapsis and formation of crossovers, and may provide a physical link between these two meiotic processes. PMID: 18316482
    4. Zip4h (Tex11), a male germ cell specific X-linked gene was isolated. Zip4h(-/Y) mutant mice were fertile. Analysis of spermatocytes revealed a delay in meiotic double strand break repair and decreased crossover formation. PMID: 18369460
