Does not hydrolyze beta-linked disaccharide 6-phosphates such as cellobiose-6'P and gentiobiose-6'P. Is involved in the dissimilation of maltose and related O-alpha-linked glucosides produced via the phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent sugar phosphotransferase system (PEP-PTS).
