  • 功能：
    Plays a role in nonsense-mediated mRNA decay. Recruits UPF1 to cytoplasmic mRNA decay bodies. Together with SMG5 is thought to provide a link to the mRNA degradation machinery involving exonucleolytic pathways, and to serve as an adapter for UPF1 to protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A), thereby triggering UPF1 dephosphorylation.

    2. Transcriptome-wide identification of nonsense-mediated mRNA decay-targeted human mRNAs reveals extensive redundancy between SMG6- and SMG7-mediated degradation pathways. PMID: 27864472
    3. We showed SMG7 mRNA levels in peripheral blood mononuclear cells correlated inversely with antinuclear antibody titres of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. The inverse relationship between levels of the risk allele-associated SMG7 mRNAs and antinuclear antibody suggested the novel contribution of mRNA surveillance pathway to systemic lupus erythematosus pathogenesis.
